Home

what face greets me from this darkness,
     a roar, unmeasured, unspoken
     sea blackness unframed,
     horizon infolded.

roaring, unmeasuring, unspeaking
    sea heaving, sky breathes blackness
from void without depth before me
where I sit infolded at land’s edge
    my horizon these lines,  horizon
    infolding with sound.

unframed darkness howling
    below star patterns
    recognizable, sounds swallowed
    in wind rage surface,
    tangle speech.

to stand on shore reach arm’s length
     into infinite, our lot
     on world spinning
     without end
     a few lines hold
     things together.
I seek comforts of shelter
not chaotic seas
but solid line      earth paths
filled with wind rhythm & light shafts
breaking canopy
forest shade
where dreams of weed thatch
& tangled flower
grass swathed
haze in light
open to waters
calm surface
                my memory
secrets forms mottled in shadow,
through comprehension
